In almost 40 years of practice and twenty years of teaching photography, mostly at the School of Visual Arts, New York, I am continually engaged in identifying what it is that fascinates and sometimes mystifies me about photographs I find satisfying to make and see. When I’m convinced they are documents of description, they transform in front of (or behind ) my eyes into artifacts of experience.
